Independent bookstores have been important sales outlets for Brynne Weaver’s bestselling Ruinous Love trilogy, and to keep the momentum going, publisher Zando has released a special indie bookstore edition of Scythe & Sparrow, the final volume in the series.

The special edition features a picture of Barbara, the troublesome raccoon featured in the book, on the cover. “Indies have been huge supporters of the Ruinous Love Trilogy, and the fan reaction to Barbara has been incredible, with fans bringing raccoon stuffed animals to Brynne’s tour,” said Andrew Rein, Zando head of sales and publishing. “We wanted to design an edition that recognized this indie support, while being a special edition to the superfans.”

According to a Zando spokesperson, the publisher has received more than 2,000 preorders from Bookshop.org and individual stores, and has shipped about 6,000 copies. Dubbed the “Barbara edition” by Zando, the publisher said the new trade paperback was designed and marketed with indie bookstores in mind, with its release timed to be on shelves for Bookstore Romance Day on August 9.

“It felt fresh and fun to create a special edition for indies that leans into Brynne's trademark humor and gives our beloved trash panda the spotlight she deserves," said Hayley Wagreich, codirector of Zando imprint Slowburn, which publishes the series, and Weaver’s editor. “When it comes to delightfully chaotic and lovable characters, Brynne is in a league of her own.”

According to Zando, the special edition will be available while supplies last. To date, Scythe & Sparrow has sold more than 400,000 copies across all formats.
