PRH Upsizes U.S. Distribution
Penguin Random House has completed a major expansion of its national distribution and fulfillment center in Crawfordsville, Ind. The project’s completion was celebrated on August 26 with a ribbon cutting, attended by Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton as well as PRH and Crawfordsville facility leadership.
This expansion adds 650,000 sq. feet to the existing 950,000 sq. foot facility, representing a more than 60% increase in size. The new space will allow PRH to double it s annual shipments of physical print books while also strengthening the facility’s workforce of 800 employees, per a press release.
As part of the project, PRH has also begun construction of a 6.3MW solar field on the site, which will be among the largest in the region. Once operational, the field is expected to “offset a significant portion of the facility’s energy use” and will “generate enough electricity to power more than 750 U.S. households annually,” according to the publisher.
The Crawfordsville distribution facility is one of four major U.S. supply-chain hubs for PRH, alongside two in Maryland and a third in Reno, Nev.
