Heather Fain Named Publishing Director at Vintage

Heather Fain has been appointed SVP and publishing director at Vintage. She will also serve as SVP of marketing strategy for Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, and will continue to report to KDPG president and publisher Maya Mavjee.

Fain joined KDPG from Pushkin Industries in October as SVP of publishing, marketing, and backlist strategy.

“In this more clearly defined role, Heather will ensure that our high standards of imaginative publishing, marketing, and editorial excellence continue for our deep backlist and Vintage Originals catalog,” said Mavjee in a statement. “This new structure delineates the ownership of our backlist publishing and brings Heather’s creativity and marketing acumen to bear in an even more focused way on our 6,000 titles and counting.”

Mavjee continued: “Heather’s deep institutional knowledge, gleaned over the course of her incredible two decades in the industry and as COO at Pushkin, make her the ideal candidate to lead our Vintage team into the future.”

Beth Lamb, SVP and deputy publisher at Vintage, will newly report to Fain, while James Meader, VP and associate publisher, will continue reporting to Lamb.

Jennifer Barth, who is both SVP and executive editor for Knopf and SVP and editorial director for Vintage Originals, will now have a dotted line reporting to Heather in her Vintage capacity, and they will be closely aligned on the Originals program and content.

The current structure of the Vintage marketing, publicity, and art departments remains in place.
