After increasing 28% in January, bookstore sales fell 8.3%, to $1.07 billion, in February, according to preliminary estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Sales for the entire retail segment rose 3.1% in the month. For the first two months of 2002, bookstore sales increased 13.7%, to $3.25 billion, while sales for all of retail rose 3.1%.
