The two publishers have entered into an agreement to do selected Grove titles under the Penguin and Signet imprints, in effect giving the younger house a mass market outlet. As an example, Penguin Putnam president Susan Petersen Kennedy and Grove Atlantic's Morgan Entrekin, who made the arrangement earlier this year, cite the Signet paperback of Candace Bushnell's Four Blondes, currently a bestseller. The aim, according to Entrekin, is to have a mass paperback partner for some of the thrillers and spy novels he loves to publish; a Grove spokesperson says the deal will probably cover about four titles a year. For a start, the two houses will combine this winter to promote the work of John Lawton—a Penguin paperback of his Black Out will appear next January, at the same time Grove publishes a hardcover of his next, Old Flames, already a hit in the author's native Britain.
