It was the disaster story that had a miraculously happy ending when, back in July, nine Pennsylvania miners trapped underground for 77 hours emerged alive. Hyperion signed up all the miners for their first-person accounts and within four months published Our Story: 77 Hours that Tested Our Friendship and Our Faith by the Quecreek Miners as told to Jeff Goodell (a journalist and published author). The publisher's parent company, ABC, aired a made-for-TV movie last month, and Oprah provided another sales push when all nine miners and their wives were guests. The book has had three printings, making for 115,000 in print.
