Hyperion publisher Ellen Archerwas late leaving the office for the BEA show recently, which enabled her to get in on the ground floor when agent Suzanne Gluckat William Morris called to offer her a novel manuscript called The Gotham Diaries by a pair of high-flying African-American authors. They are Tonya Lewis Lee, movie director Spike Lee's wife, and Crystal McCrary, who's married to former Knicks player and now TV commentator Greg Anthony. Their book is about the world of highly affluent blacks that they know very well. Archer read it as she flew out to L.A., and upon landing made a two-book deal covering the U.S., Canada and the open market. She aims to publish next summer.
