The insanely ambitious scheme to cook and eat every one of the 500-plus recipes in Julia Child's classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking was carried out by Queens (N.Y.) secretary Julie Powell, and such was the impact of her wry online commentary on her project, and a NYT feature story about it, that publishers lined up for her projected book. So there was an auction for The Julie/Julia Project, as she called it, and Little, Brown's Judy Clain won, buying North American rights from Sarah Chalfant at the Wylie agency. The book will appear in early 2005, long after Julie and her long-suffering husband have digested all that food.
