A pair of books, nonfiction and fiction, that dwell on matters of religious faith, seem like an unlikely creation for Darcey Steinke, author of such outré works as Suicide Blonde and Jesus Saves, but that's what her agent, Wylie's Sarah Chalfant, has just sold to a publisher other than Steinke's previous one, Grove/Atlantic. Her new house is Bloomsbury USA, where Gillian Blake was delighted to take her on. Her new short novel, called Milk, is about the relationship between sexuality and spirituality, involving a gay priest and a former monk, and the other book is a memoir called Back to Church, in which Steinke, a minister's daughter who had left the church as she grew up, describes a return to worship and its satisfactions.
