Alexander McCall Smith's newest title in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, The Full Cupboard of Life, lands on our hardcover fiction list in the #8 spot, with more than 150,000 copies in print. Pantheon notes that the five books in the series have a total of more than 2.85 million copies in the U.S. alone (the series has been translated into 26 languages). Smith, a professor of medical law at the University of Edinburgh, is criss-crossing America on a 14-city book tour. Pantheon reports that his readings have drawn capacity crowds, as Smith "amuses audiences with his infectious laughter, tartan kilt and green socks, and charm and generous spirit."
