Internationally known illustrator Martin Matje died of cancer on September 13 at the age of 42. Matje was born in Paris, had been living in Canada, but had recently returned to France. He is best known for his illustrations for The Ink Drinker and its three sequels, written by Eric Sanvoisin. In addition, he wrote and illustrated Celeste: A Day in the Park and provided illustrations for several other books, including Harry and Lulu by Arthur Yorinks and Stuart's Cape and Stuart Goes to School by Sara Pennypacker. Aside from his work in books, Matje had illustrations published in numerous magazines and newspapers, including the New Yorker, the NewYork Times, the Washington Post and Time magazine.
